OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT IN YALETOWN A HUGE SUCCESS!
Sunday, July 20, 2008
Yaletown hosted the first-ever FREE outdoor movie night in David Lam Park on
July 20th. Over 1,000 people attended the screening of the classic film E.T. the
Extraterrestrial. The crowd started arriving 3 hours before showtime, and settled
in to enjoy great takeout from Yaletown businesses. "We were really busy", said
the staff at Ki-Isu Sushi on Pacific. "We just kept boxing up meals as fast as we
could. It was great". Picnics from Urban Fare, Dairy Queen, Rodneys, Panago,
Somewhere Good, Salsa Agave, Waves and Starbucks were dotting blankets
everywhere. The BIA office received over 25 letters of thank you from movie
goers – you'll find a selection of these comments below –
and many requests for another show. We are in discussions with our partners
at Park Board on this.
Special thanks to our community partners: Roundhouse
Community Centre, Vancouver Park Board, Yaletown Rotary Club and
Yaletown House
A selection of comments via email from movie goers and residents
"Loved it! This is the kind of thing Vancouver should be promoting and hosting.
We are a world class city and need to have events like this that are common
place among other comparable worldly cities! Great job and keep it up!" B. Elliot
"I just got home from watching ET under the stars and can't tell you enough how
great an event it was. YEH Yaletown Businesses for coordinating this fabulous
event. And seeing all the young families was heart warming. What a wonderful
city we live in and thank you Parks and Recreation for your support. I hope we
can look forward to more movies under the stars!" April, Yaletown Resident
"Just a quick note to compliment you on the success of the YBIA movie night in
David Lam Park. I am a resident right across the street and really wanted to go
but could not as I had a meeting already scheduled. When I returned home,
around 10:30, I actually thought the move was over as it was so quiet. I had a
quick look out my window and simply could not believe the number of people
quietly enjoying the show. It was great to see! When the movie ended I heard
the crowd cheer and that was it, I had missed it! So, I hope you can do this again
as I will definitely be there to enjoy an outdoor movie. It reminds me of the
drive-in movies I saw as a kid and I would love for our daughter to experience
this fun. Thanks again and keep up the good work around Yaletown." C. Larke
