Illuminate Yaletown returns this February long-weekend
Lights. Camera. Action! 📸
The holiday season and festivities may be over as the city lights installations, art shows and night events come to a close by the end of January. But that does not mean that the fun ends there.
If you are searching for something fun and inspiring this February with your friends, family, date or coworkers, then come enjoy the FREE, entertainment-filled outdoor Light Art Exhibition hosted in Yaletown, showcasing contemporary and engaging technology from industry-leading light artists and designers who play with advanced video and lighting technology. For TWO NIGHTS only, during the February long weekend of 14th and 15th, join us at and take a stroll through some of the coolest and exclusive displays in Yaletown.
Illuminate Yaletown will take place on Hamilton Street, between Drake and Davie. Plus, there will be a surprise installation at the Canada Line Roundhouse station. Lights on at 5:30 pm precisely and the exhibition goes dark at 9 pm sharp. This is a two night, and one street that you don’t want to miss.
Play and be inspired by unique outdoor projections, creative animations, and interactive light forms in the streets of Yaletown. There will be building projection mapping, an “LED Playground” for adults where you’ll find LED seesaws and a giant Lite-Brite, a pop-up retro arcade inside Soho Bar to reminisce the 70’s and 80’s, a “luminous jungle” to pose and take candid photos, the giant playful “Jax” in the streets, and much more including the return of “robot invasion“. Check out last year’s event at #illuminateYaletown to see what you missed.
Celebrating the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games
2020 also marks the 10-year anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games which took place in mid-February. To recapture the memories this long-weekend when the streets in Yaletown were filled with cheers, flags and celebration, Illuminate Yaletown will bring Olympic-theme installations for everyone such as the “Olympic Ring Swings” at the LED Playground, and “Winner’s Podium” for you to stand on and commemorate the golden moments.
If you’re searching for something to do on Saturday evening, at 7 PM on Saturday, visit restaurants & bars like Banter Room where you can relive the 2010 Games with Canadian flags, Olympic banners, Olympic vibes, and golden metal games.
Participating businesses will also be making Yaletown’s evenings even more fun; grab a friend and enjoy special “Olympic-theme cocktail menus” at participating restaurants in Yaletown for two-days such as:
- House Special — Ooh Canada
- The Distillery Bar + Kitchen — The Red Dragon Olympic Martini
- Robba da Matti — True North Sour
- Yaletown Brewing Co. — Tokyo 2020
- Banter Room — Gold Medal Margarita
- West Oak — Golden Ring
In addition, visit Illuminate Yaletown with your Candian red & white spirit or Olympic-themed gears (ex. Olympic volunteer jacket), and get a pair of our reflective glasses so that you can enjoy the night even more! (see image below)
