Tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Kelsey Bru, and I am a Licensed Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac). I moved to Vancouver to pursue Chinese Medicine from Saskatchewan 10 years ago. I love the active lifestyle the West Coast provides and I try to get out as much as possible such as going on my stand-up paddleboard in the warmer months and the ski slopes in the winter months. Career-wise, I was drawn to Chinese Medicine’s holistic approach, seeing the body as a whole and not symptomatically.

What inspired you to start in Yaletown?

Yaletown is thriving with like-minded people and I want to help incorporate Chinese Medicine into everyone’s health regime.

What is your favourite part of your job?

The favourite part of my job is to see my patients reach their health goals with my support. Whether it is maintenance treatments, chronic/acute pain recovery, fertility issues, fatigue/low energy, headaches/migraines, sleeping problems, low immunity, the list goes on and on but I strive to help in any way that I can along their wellness journey.

Acupuncturists are able to detect and correct where the kinks or blockages in the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”) are in one’s body. One way of looking at this is to think of yourself as a garden hose that has a kink in it; the plants (meaning your body) will not receive adequate water with which to thrive. Once your acupuncturist locates the kink, we use specific points to un-kink and restore the proper flow of Qi (Qi is the vital energy that runs through your hose), so that your cells, muscles, tissues and organs can heal and function properly.
